HUGH STODDART

Hugh Stoddart has written the screenplays for many successful films both for TV and cinema. He has adapted novels such as TO THE LIGHTHOUSE, WE THINK THE WORLD OF YOU and THE MILL ON THE FLOSS. His original work has included REMEMBRANCE, THE BIG BATTALIONS, also his new film WAITING FOR YOU. Hugh has directed two short films, but he prefers to work closely with a director.

Prior to his full-time commitment to TV and cinema, Hugh worked in the visual arts, first for South West Arts and then as director of the Ikon Gallery in Birmingham.

He co-founded NOT SHUT UP in 2003 and, alongside his own work, became its managing editor until 2012, establishing it as a national magazine to showcase the writing and art of prisoners. His current film project, MY SONGS INSIDE, draws on that experience. He has also written a stage play, THE LAST TAPE, and is currently working on his first novel, UNSAFE HOUSES.
